Eisenhower was in the White House, Hawaii had just become a state, and Warren Gumbs was beginning his career at Educational Bus Transportation — a company he would call home for the next 57 years until his retirement this past December.
A member of The Trans Group family of bus companies, Educational Bus Transportation provides student transportation services to school districts in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Trans Group President John Corr, Jr., remarked, “We’re proud to count many longtime employees, but there’s no one quite like Warren. He began as a mechanic and rose to vice president, a position he held for four decades. Along the way he became a trusted friend and advisor to his co-workers as well as generations of personnel in the school districts served by Educational Bus Transportation. Warren has been a constant source of insight and direction. On behalf of his extended family throughout The Trans Group, I wish him the best in his retirement and thank him for his many years of extraordinary service.”
Educational Bus Transportation President Sean Corr added, “Warren will always be remembered fondly by our customers and by all those who were lucky enough to work with him. We wish him good luck in his newfound freedom.” Gumbs and his family have lived in Lindenhurst, New York, for more than 40 years.
The Trans Group employs over 1,700 individuals and operates over 1,200 school and public transit buses in lower New York State and Long Island. The company is actively involved in the school bus industry on a state and national level.
